Macy's Sixth Sense
In this article, we will be looking at the final transcribed experience which was shared by an audience member for OVERNIGHT's web-series 'Haunted Homies'. OVERNIGHT is a paranormal investigation team based in America, and they upload their investigations to YouTube. Durijg their 'Hauhted Homies' series, they discuss the paranormal infront of an audience, and they read out the experiences which the audience members have submitted to them prior to the event. Once the experience is read out, the team invites the person the experience belongs to onto the stage, and then the person is questioned on the experience by the OVERNIGHT team.
This particular experience was shared by Macy, and is actually three seperate paranormal experiences she has had. Usually I split seperate experiences into different articles, as the purpose of these articles is to highlight individual paranormal experiences, but there is an important factor at play for Macy which overshadows and connects all of the experiences. I have tried my best to transcribe the experience and the interview word for word to keep everything discussed as authentic. Where, in the interview segment, you see (...) it means I've cut out a portion of the conversation. I'm always reluctant to do this, and so cut out as little as possible, but the OVERNIGHT team have a habit of going off topic and joking about things, so it's an unfortunate necessity. Anything I couldn't understand is marked by *inaudible*. The interview was conducted by Elton Castee, Corey Scherer, and Corbin Reinhardt; three members of the OVERNIGHT paranormal investigation team. As with all articles, my own thoughts will be included at the end of the article.
Macy's Experience
"I can't exactly remember the exact year, but it was between the year 2017 and 2019. It was a really dark time for me, and I was going through things mentally and emotionally. My parents had let me stay home for a week in late fall, early winter, to let me get a break from school. I was in the back of the house in the guest bedroom where I heard muffled voices coming from the front room. I went to see who it was, and I saw no one there, so I sat on the couch and I kept hearing these voices. There were three spirits, and they had told me their names.
I was maybe about eight to ten years old, and it was summer time. I was staying with my uncle in Dry Ridge, and I all of a sudden hear footsteps about twenty or thirty feet infront of me. I look up and I knew I was home but I didn't see anyone infront of me. I just chalked it up to *Inaudible*. Well, then the microwave turned on by itself. I was nowhere near it, no one else was home, and I was by myself.
The last encounter I had that I can remember was when I was about fourteen years old, and I was with a family friend, and we were making dinner for everyone who lived with me at the time; it was about twelve people. Jt was just me and her in the house, everyone else was outside or gone. I went to the bathroom, and I was in there for maybe a minute before I heard a crash. I finish up, and I come out, and I ask what happened. When I walk into the kitchen, there she was, across the room, nowhere near the cabinet that had opened with pots and pans all over the floor. She had said she was washing dishes when the cabinet just opened and pots and pans flew out all over the floor. We then heard a small noise coming from my brother's room in the back of the house. Reminder, no one was in the house but me and her. We walk back there and there's papers everywhere. We still to this day have no idea what happened."
Macy's Q&A
Elton: "May I ask *reads part of Macy's experience* 'can't exactly remember the exact year, but it was between the years of 2017 to 2019' *finishes reading* That was only three years ago?"
Macy: "Yes"
Elton: "How could you not, not, how do you not know what year between three to five years ago? We're not talking, like, decades"
Macy: "Um, I have a really bad memory"
Elton: "Okay"
Macy: "And..."
Corbin: "So do I"
Macy: "...also"
Elton: "So is it possible you were drunk making pizza rolls?"
Macy: "No"
Elton: "Okay"
Macy: "I was just going through a tough time mentally"
Elton: "Okay"
Macy: "Around that time I, um, my parents, like I said, er, they let me stay home from school because a lot was going on at school at the time. So, I was staying home for a week at school, uh, from school; and just one night randomly I was staying in my brother's room, which is right next to my parent's room. Everybody was asleep, you know, we had three dogs but they were in my parents room, and they were passed out asleep. I had heard a noise in the living room, and I was like 'maybe my parents are up, maybe, you know, they're just locking the door or whatever'..."
Corbin: "Yeah"
Corey: "Yeah"
Macy: "...so I went in there, and no one was in there, and I was like 'okay, that's wierd', and then I just had the urge to look, to just sit on the couch. Then I, like, there was no TV on, all the lights were off"
Corbin: "Just sit by yourself on the couch"
Macy: "Just sitting by myself on the couch"
Corbin: "Okay"
Macy: "On the couch, and I, like, I've never really done that before. I don't really sit by myself in the dark much, and so basically what happened was I looked towards my front door. I think I saw three different shadow figures and they all told me their names. We were having a conversation and this lasted a week, like I did that exact thing for..."
Corbin: "You sat there for a week?"
Macy: "...I, like, every night for a week I would go into my living room and I would, like, talk to these ghosts"
Corey: "And you would hear them clear as day?"
Macy: "Yeah, I could hear them clear as day. I took a friend to stay there, er, and we had a conversation. She asked questions and everything"
Corbin: "She saw them too?"
Macy: "She didn't see them, but she was like 'this is wierd, can I ask questions?' And so I was communicating with her. Then, after that week, I forgot everything. I also swear to god, I couldn't find the papers, but I swear that I wrote down the three names, but I couldn't find them anywhere and that, that was just the weirdest thing I, that's ever happened"
Elton: "When were you able to remember them?"
Macy: "Just a few days ago"
Elton: "Wait, what? Just a few days ago you remembered the story?"
Macy: "Yeah, 'cause you guys had sent the email for the ghost stories and I was like 'I don't really think I've had much of, like, ghost activity other than, like, the microwave and the pots and pans, but like'; and then I just remembered, like, I was at work the other day and I just remembered this and I was like 'that was probably the most terrifying thing that I've ever done' "
Corey: "Wow, so you just somehow forgot about it?"
Macy: "Yeah"
Corey: "Then when you were like 'let me think, has anything happened to me' that, that memory just popped back in your head?"
Macy: "Yeah, like, I, I had no idea..."
Corbin: "What do you think could be a reason why that, 'cause that seems like any traumatic memory would be automatically instilled in my memory, like, forever; so do you think there's a reason why you didn't remember it or forgot about it?"
Macy: "I probably just didn't think much of it 'cause I was going through a lot at the time too and um, I had ended up in the mental hospital, like, the week after, but, I mean, I, I probably just didn't think anything of it and then ended up forgetting it, but that was just the weirdest thing that I've ever experienced"
Corey: "Wow"
Elton: "And does your friend, like, recall this as well?"
Macy: "I can't remember who was there, but probably not"
Corey: "Didi you ever play with a Ouija board or something?"
Macy: "No"
Corey: "Did you ever do anything that could, you know, cause that to happen or was it just random?"
Macy: "It was just random. My, my parents would never let me get a Ouija board or anything that could, like, cause spirits"
Corbin: "Those are good parents"
Corey: "Those are good, those are great parents actually"
Elton: "Boring parents"
(...)
Elton: "All three stories are from the same house?"
Macy: "Except for the microwave one"
Elton: "Okay, so two of these are from the same house?"
Macy: "Yes"
Elton: "And has anyone ever tried figuring iht why, what's happening? Have you reached out to anyone to maybe understand, like is your house in a wierd area, old ground, new house; like what's, what's the history on your home?"
Macy: "It's in the middle of like a, of Greensburg Indiana, so it's kind of like, it's not really a busy area, but it's not really like some place that would be technically haunted. The only haunted place that we have in Greensburg is the Saint Mary's Church, and a school; and that's condemned because it has asbestos"
Elton: "Do you wish that you could ever remember their names, or had the names written down, because you could have, like, actually figured it out, or are you just kind of glad that it happened and it's gone?"
Macy: "I kind of wanna investigate more on it because that was like a core memory of, like, one of my first experiences other than the microwave, 'cause I know what the microwave was. That was my grandma trying to, like, communicate with me to say she was still there"
Corbin: "Oh, so you feel like that was your grandma? You feel like you know that?"
Macy: "Yeah, because I was, it was like around when I was eight years old and my grandma, my grandmother had just passed a year before that and when I heard the footsteps I was like 'it's an old house, no big deal', but then the microwave turned on by itself and as a kid you're like 'that doesn't happen, but it's fine' like"
Corey: "Yeah, okay, I kinda have a question. I have a little theory, and I want, I wanna know when, when it was around the 2017, 2019 time, were you watching ghost hunting videos on youtube?"
Macy: "I kinda actually remember watching Long Island Medium"
Corey: "Long Island; what's that?"
(...)
Corey: "But, so you believed in ghosts and spirits right?"
Macy: "Yeah"
Corey: "And watching that show, did it make you believe more?"
Macy: "Yeah"
Corey: "Would you say?"
Macy: "Not necessarily in like the medium part because, like, anybody could know anything if you tell them"
Corey: "Yeah"
Macy: "But, like, I just thought, like, watching that kind of stuff would be so interesting because I watched Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters with my parents as a kid and, like, then experiencing that was like I don't know if I just made those up or if it actually happened because I actually had a friend there and I can't, it sucks that I can't remember who it was, but, like, I had someone else experience that with me"
Elton: "Is it possible you didn't?"
Macy: "It is possible"
Elton: "Is it possible that the person you're referring to isn't actually a real person?"
Macy: "That was with me?"
Elton: "Correct"
Mcay: "She is"
Elton: "But you said you can't remember who it is?"
Corey: "Like, what if it was just more up here *taps his head* like you were imagining it"
Elton: "Yeah, you literally just said you don't remember who it is. What if you didn't actually have a physical human there with you?"
Corey: "And that's why you can't remember them"
Macy: "That kinda falls everything into place then"
Elton: "Yeah, I mean, you, you literally said you don't remember who it is and then you said 'she', so now you think it's a she, but like, you don't remember who it is; so how do you know that that encounter also wasn't real?"
Macy: "You're right"
Corbin: "Well for that to make sense Elton *inaudible*"
Corey: "Wow, that's, that's very deep"
Elton: "Well, I, I'm just following the facts, I'm not, like, making leaps and bounds. You don't remember who the three people were, you don't know where the paper is that you wrote it down on, you don't remember who was with you. So, what if, maybe that's like a, a Sixth Sense kinda moment?"
Corey: "Like it didn't happen, but it did happen, but it didn't happen?"
Elton: "Yeah, exactly, it's a Bruce Willis Sixth Sense kind of a moment"
Corey: "Hm, oh, oh like it was a, like a dream"
Elton: "No, I'm saying like what if there three entities in the house"
Corey: "Yeah"
Elton: "And then another one came in and was like 'hey, I'll help you out. I'll, I'll stay with you, I'll keep you safe' "
Corey: "And, and then they just Men In Blacked her and just erased the memory"
Elton: "Yup"
(...)
Macy: "But, like, the thing is, like, I do know I was awake for that. So, like, it's not like I could have dreamed anything"
Elton: "How do I know you were awake for that?"
Macy: " 'Cause I walked into the living room"
Elton: "You can sleepwalk"
Macy: "Well, I have insomnia so I'm always awake"
(...)
Macy: "Well, we all know you're a skeptic"
Corbin: "Oh yeah"
Elton: "I'm a skeptic, but I think that's what makes me so, no, ok, not tooting my own horn, but I think that's what makes me good as a paranormal investigator because I can look at logic, and put pieces together, and go from there, and I can come to..."
Corey: "Stop tooting your damn horn bro"
Elton: "But I'm just saying, neither of you were like 'what if the girl wasn't real', and that kinda makes the most sense in this circumstance, right?"
Corbin: "Yeah, I just find it funny that you keep saying 'toot your own horn' "
Corey: "Yeah, but she say, you know, she wasn't in the best place at the time and then, you know, went away somewhere a week after that and doesn't remember much"
Elton: "Yeah"
Corey: "So it's, it's, it's hard. It, it's a, it's a hard one"
Macy: "But I guess that does make sense though, 'cause I wasn't in the best place. So, like maybe that other girl, or whoever it was, wasn't real"
Corbin: "I think it also would be possible to deduct that, right? I mean, anybody that you knew at that time, be possible to text them, or find them, or you know, not, not even if you knew the name but just, like, literally anybody they could put out there if nobody shows up in that way"
Elton: "Yeah, just do a tweet and be like 'who was at my house between 2017, 2019 and saw the three crazy people' "
Corey: "Yeah, if, if you're listening to this; text her please"
(...)
Elton: "Anything, anything further since then like at, at your house or?"
Macy: "Um, not my house, but at my work. Um, I work at Walmart in Greensburg and, like a few months after I started last year; I had one ear-bud in, but the music was off because someone had just talked to me and walked away, and I was on one of our ladder carts, and it has three levels and then a ladder that you can just stand on. While I was up there, and I was putting stuff on the top shelf, all I hear is someone scream my name bloody murder at the top of their lungs. I look at the Isle next to me, 'cause I can see over the shelves, look at, at the other Isle, there was no one there, look behind me, look infront of me; no one was around me, it was like it was dead and there, I work with other people at night, so..."
Corbin: "This was during open hours at Walmart?"
Macy: "No, I work at night, I work third shift"
Corbin: "Oh, okay"
Macy: "And, so, I heard that and I was like 'I have no idea what that is, so I'm just going to ignore it'. Like thirty, forty-five minutes later, I heard it again and then a couple of months later I heard it five more times"
Corbin: "Is there anybody working with you there?"
Macy: "Yeah, there's other people, but I've, I, I literally did a small investigation..."
Corbin: "Yeah"
Macy: "...like, to see if anybody was around me. I asked people if they, like, were screaming my name; nobody. Nothing"
Corey: "Did anyone else hear it?"
Macy: "No"
Corbin: "I wonder if it would be possible to hear it on the cameras. Do they have audio or anything like that, 'cause that would be crazy"
*Inaudible*
Elton: "I don't think they do, but that would be really cool if they did"

My Thoughts
This is definitely one of the more interesting experiences I've written about so far, and that's because it delves into a mental health perspective on paranormal experiences. Plus, in doing so, it questions what we perceive and remember as being real. This is why I've tagged this experience in the 'Experiences Of Interest' category in the database. Starting with how real I think Macy's experiences would be from the point of view of an external observer, I think only the cupboard and microwave have potential for external observation. Macy admits only she experienced the three spirits, and that only she heard her name being screamed. Given her history with mental health, which did result in her spending some time in a mental hospital, Macy is not the most reliable of narrators when it comes to sharing her paranormal experiences. She also shared that she has insomnia, and lack of sleep can cause both visual and auditory hallucinations.
I think the overnight team were incredibly respectful when it came to their questions around Macy's mental health. I also think Elton was absolutely right in questioning if Macy's friend was real. Macy never shared if hallucinations were part of what she was experiencing at the time, but the mental health of an individual is something that should be put into question when it comes to their experiences. Macy didn't seem too surprised when Elton posed the idea of the friend not being real, and Macy did say it was a possibility, so perhaps Macy has knowingly experienced hallucinations. This is all speculatory though.
I do believe that Macy experienced what she's described to the overnight team. I do however think that her experiences were likely due to her mental health, and I think that's the avenue Elton possibly wanted to go down but then pivoted to his Sixth Sense theory as telling someone a fourth ghost was present is kinder than telling someone their experience was likely down to mental health. As for Elton's Sixth Sense theory, it is a possibility. It's often discussed that the imaginary friends children have could actually be spirits who want to protect the child. I really don't think this is what happened here though.
I think, when it comes to the three spirits, Macy was going through a tough time which put her in hospital not long after. She likely forgot about the experience because the brain suppresses traumatic memories, and it can warp these memories. She was watching ghost related content too, so it isn't a stretch to assume her mind covered up potential trauma with something she found an interest in. At the very least, if she did experience that at the time and it isn't just a false memory, her brain could have created the experience to serve as a distraction from what she was dealing with at the time.
As for Macy's friend, there is no way to accurately judge from what was discussed as to if her friend was real. The only think making me think she might not be real is the time span. Elton said the experience would have happened three to five years prior to Macy being interviewed. Macy doesn't seem so young that she wouldn't remember a friend from five years ago, especially not one that had been to her house. To have no recollection of this person, and to have no contact with this recent friend is extremely odd to me, and this is what causes doubts around the friend's existence.
As for the microwave and cupboard experiences, I don't know what could cause a microwave to spontaneously turn on and I think the cupboard may have been too full. Pots and pans stacked awkwardly in the cupboard could have fallen against the cupboard door, pushing it open, leading to them spilling out all over the floor. This is the most rational explanation, but it is only speculation.
I was quite impressed that Corey asked about if Macy had been watching YouTube videos of the paranormal around the time that these experiences were happening. It's a shame he didn't say his theory, but I suspect his theory would either have been that the belief caused spirits to interact with Macy more, or it was that the belief in the paranormal played on Macy's mental health at the time. I think both are sound theories. As with most paranormal experiences, there tends to be at least one good paranormal theory and one good skeptical theory.
Thank You!
Thank you for reading to the end of this article! I'm quite glad that this experience had the potential to go a little into the mental health side of paranormal experiences as, from what I see of the paranormal space, it's an angle which isn't discussed too often. When someone experiences something, and no one else did, then a mental aspect should always be taken into consideration; even if the individual experienced the even while alone. I do believe in the paranormal, and Macy's experiences could have been down to spirits, but with what she shared about her mental health combined with the timing, I do think her experiences were likely down to her going through a tough time.
