The Choughs is located in Somerset, England, and has been referred to as 'The Choughs Hotel'. Not at all much is publicly known about this location, but it is thought to date back to the early 1600s and possibly the 1500s. This location's claim to fame is it's said that Judge George Jeffreys stayed here while conducting the Bloody Assizes during 1685 following the Monmouth Rebellion. Despite the lack of known history, it is said this location is haunted. There is a tombstone within the fireplace, and there is a belief that the location was used as a regular meeting place for a coven of witches. A knight wearing armour has been encountered within this location, and the spirit of a man speculated to be Judge Jeffreys has been seen crouching by the fireplace. It has also been reported that a man can sometimes be seen hanging from the attic rafters, and a young woman called Elizabeth is said to haunt one of the bedrooms.  History     The Choughs can be found in ...

41 Iron Gate, at the time of writing this known as 'Jorrocks', is located in Derby, England. The name of this location has changed a few times, and so the address of '41 Iron Gate' is what will be used in this article. The hauntings here mostly include accounts of poltergeist activity, although there are two known figures present. The most well known feature of this location, and the suspected cause of the paranormal activity here is a real skull, found beneath the building, which they have on display behind the bar.  History 41 Iron Gate has also been known as 'Jorrocks', 'Lafferty's', and 'The George'. A couple of sources also cite the names 'The George Inn', 'Mr Jorrock's', 'The Globe', 'The Globe Inn', and 'Globe Vaults'. The Red Lion pub is located in Avebury, a village in Wiltshire, within the south-west of England. Having researched not only the pub, but also the village, I find this location could contain one of the most interesting hauntings I will ever discuss on this blog. The location also contains many apparitions, and a few dubious claims of activity. History It's impossible to discuss The Red Lion without talking about the surrounding area of Avebury. I won't discuss the many historical sites the village boasts in detail, but I will definitely give them a mention along with a bit of context. As you can see from the above image, the Red Lion is located within the middle of a stone circle, and is in the middle of an area known as Avebury Henge. The henge was built and altered during the Neolithic period, roughly between 2850 BC and 2200 BC.
