Alton Towers: Hall Experiences

This article is a continued documentation of a series of images the YouTube paranormal researcher 'Don't Scare Claire' shared to Facebook on the 16th of May 2024. These images included the paranormal experiences of two individuals who work at the Alton Towers theme park in England. As I write these experience articles to make shared experiences as accessible as possible, I decided it was best to split those images into two seperate articles as they were from two seperate people. This second documentation will discuss the experiences of a colleague of the ride operator discussed in the previous article discussing these shared images. In typing up the texts, I have corrected certain things regarding spelling and grammar to make for an easier read, but I will include the original images of the texts Claire recieved at the end of this article so that a perfectly accurate documentation is also featured.

The Experience

'Oh plenty. Those towers ain't normal. I've walked through the whole thing solo and I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder. I've closed up the chapel and, as I locked it, I've heard someone from inside say "please don't leave me". Those towers ain't normal.'

'I'm not that supernaturally inclined, but like I've said, those towers aren't normal; part of their charm. I remember standing in the old Grand Hall of the towers and I heard like cutlery, as if there was a big meal or something, and I knew it wasn't normal because it was 3 in the afternoon in preseason and all the construction was down by Manor.'

Summary Of Hauntings

1. Hand on shoulder felt
2. Voice heard: "please don't leave me" - Chapel
3. Sounds of cutlery - old grand Hall, 3pm preseason

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed reading these texts because they were so short, but contained so much regarding quantity of experiences rather than detail. It comes across as genuine to me due to the lack of detail plus what I view as added humour regarding the narrative of 'those towers ain't normal'. The two things which strike me as odd, despite me believing them, are the seeming clarity of the voice and cutlery. A clear voice saying a sentence through a door is a remarkable piece of activity to have experienced. So, I believe it will have happened but I will also acknowledge that these words may not have been said but only remembered to have been said.

The mind likes to fill in gaps, so it's plausible that something voice-like was heard and in the context of locking up, the colleagues mind constructed a remembered sentence when perhaps only a vague 'please don't' may have been heard. If the voice was that clear, then perhaps acoustics of the location boosted what could only have been the traditional faint whisper. If the colleague was already aware of hauntings, which is likely in a place known to be haunted, then maybe there was sound caused by a breeze of some sort and this led to the mind hearing a voice. All are reasonable explanations. Personally, I think a voice will have been experienced, but I am unsure on how common it would be for it to be as clear as described. The reason I think a voice will have been experienced is because of the quantity of experienced phenomena within this location.

The cutlery experience is a more extravagant claim which I feel lies a bit further beyond standard reported experiences. I'm glad the employee has included the detail of construction all being around the Curse at Alton Manor at the time. This not only puts a timeframe on when the experience occured, but it also shows this employee has considered rational explanations to their experiences. Assuming this experience occured as described, the only thing I can thing of which could maybe cause such a noise is the dripping of water leaking in from a roof. If standing at a good distance, and with certain acoustics, the splashing of dripping water could maybe me misinterpreted as metal clashing in a faint way such as with cutlery.

However, the employee says they were standing in the hall at the time they heard this sound. This implies they heard the sound in the great hall, and all around them, as though they were standing amidst a feast.  If this is the case, then it's interesting as the experience is akin to time-slipping or to a residual haunting. If the employee was stood in the Great Hall and heard the sound from elsewhere, then I would think dripping water is the likely culprit.

An important detail to discuss is the construction that occured around 'The Curse At Alton Manor'. This ride is the haunted house at the theme park, and so I would assume talk of real hauntings to be high amongst employees during this time. This further adds to the possibility of the mind filling in gaps in memory, or unexplained phenomena, with paranormal explanations due to the paranormal already being in the forefront of the mind. I do genuinely believe Alton Towers to be haunted, and I do believe this employee experienced some things they couldn't explain, but it's important to discuss all possible explanations both paranormal and ordinary.

Thank You!

Thank you for reading to the end of this article, and again a huge thank you goes to Don't Scare Claire for being alright with me writing this article and for providing the texts discussed! If you want to watch her videos, you can click the link below:

This article was a bit shorter than usual, and I was considering keeping all of these Alton Towers experiences together in one article due to how short this one was, but I decided it was more important to keep the experiences as easy to find rather than using them to add bulk to an article. I think the experience articles, such as this one, are my favourite to write as they offer a different angle on the paranormal than any other type of article. Locations are quite tricky as you often don't have first-hand accounts of activity, and there's always a tourism angle to consider, but when someone shares their experience you have a different set of questions to consider. You need to consider potential motives of the person for sharing such an experience, but also the psychological factors which may be at play, along with other explanations for that experience having happened as the person has described it.
